The Standard: “Kimanzi lands another contract”
July 31, 2008
Kenya Premier League (KPL) says it will contract national team Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi.
The contract will however be part-time as the coach still handles Premier League leaders Mathare United.
KPL Managing Director, Jack Oguda said, they are ready to offer Kimanzi a contract up to the end of October, when the first round of the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations matches are scheduled to end.
“We are certainly going to contract him but it will on a part-time basis until the end of the first round of the qualifiers,” said Oguda.
Oguda said any long term contract with Kimanzi would depend on whether the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) renews its contract with KPL to continue managing the team.
“A long term contract will depend on whether we qualify for the second round of the qualifiers and also if KPL continues managing the team,” he added.
entered partnership
KPL entered into partnership with the federation to manage Stars for the first six matches of the qualifiers.
This is after the federation admitted that it does not have the money to participate in the qualifiers and the government was not willing to bail them out.
After four matches in charge, Kimanzi has already proved that he has what it takes to lead Stars places.
Harambee Stars are second in group two of the qualifiers, behind Guinea. Both teams have seven points and are only separated by an inferior goal aggregate. Stars play their next qualification match on September 7 against Namibia at home and wind up a month later away to group leaders Guinea.
